New Lt. Louis Zamperini / A6M3 Zero display: Interception of Superman, April 1943.
Lt. Louis Zamperini was the bombardier of B-24D 'Super Man' during
a mission to bomb Nauru in April 1943. His plane barely managed to
return home after being intercepted by Japanese fighters and receiving over 600 bullet holes in his aircraft. A6M3 Mod. 32 Zero number 3145 participated in the interception of ‘Superman’ that day. The aircraft was recovered from Taroa in 1992, and a fragment from this aircraft is included with this display.
